Minister - Rev Dr Alistair May

Alistair MayAlistair May became our minister in February 2002, at the age of 31

Although new to this church, he is no stranger to the area. He grew up in the neighbouring parish of Burnside and attended Stonelaw High School. (He is now visiting his old school as Chaplain.) Before training for the ministry, Alistair studied Law at Strathclyde University and then worked as a volunteer youth worker for a Baptist Church in Cheshire and subsequently as an assistant with Edinburgh City Mission

Alistair studied for his BD at Glasgow University, receiving honours in Theology and New Testament Studies. He then completed a PhD in New Testament, during which he did a little lecturing, however, between these courses of study he was, for eighteen months, probationary minister at St David's in Kirkintilloch. After his PhD he worked briefly as a pastoral assistant for Burnside Parish Church (where he was also an elder, as are both his parents) and as Locum at Govanhill Trinity Parish Church

Alistair is married to Elaine, a qualified accountant, who also grew up in Burnside. They have two young daughters, Rebecca and Hannah.

Before Alistair was called to Stonelaw, the congregation had already committed itself to work more closely with the other Parish churches in Rutherglen. In the light of that, the Presbytery of Glasgow charged the new minister to work with the congregation towards creating a "community parish and team ministry for Rutherglen". The Presbytery will review progress after five years

During his early days in Stonelaw, Alistair has made a big impression on the Stonelaw congregation with sensitive pastoral care and enjoyable services containing thought-provoking sermons.
