      <image:title>Who's Who - Our Minister, Rev Neil H. Watson</image:title>
<image:caption>Neil became the minister of Stonelaw in June 2021, having spent the best part of a decade ministering in the Lothians. Neil is married to Elizabeth, and they have a young daughter named Phoebe. They all feel very blessed to have been welcomed so warmly by the people of Stonelaw and hope that you would want to experience that warm welcome too! Since he came to the realisation that this life is not the only thing on offer but that there is hope, comfort and meaning to be had in an everlasting relationship with God, through Jesus, Neil loves sharing that Good News with people. As well as being passionate about telling people about Jesus, Neil enjoys spending time with his family, reading books, and listening to music. He spends most of his free time playing and writing his own songs, finding it a great and creative way to unwind and relax. Equally, he loves to watch most sports but especially American Football, Basketball and Baseball. As the minister and Teaching Elder of Stonelaw, Neil has responsibility for chairing the Kirk Session (our leadership team), leading on any worship and teaching-related matters, whilst providing support and oversight in all other ministry areas in the church. With all the changes going on in our world and within the Church of Scotland, Neil believes the church is being called now more than ever to spend time in prayer, seeking God’s comfort and direction, and reaching out to those who find themselves in need of God’s loving hand. If you would like to discuss worship, baptism, membership, weddings, or funerals, Neil would be delighted to have a chat with you. Equally, if you would like someone to pray with or for you, or even if you would just like to speak to someone, Neil is always available. He can be contacted on 07871615840 or by email on: minister@stonelawchurch.org Please note that Neil’s days off are a Monday and most Saturdays.</image:caption>

<image:title>Praying Together - Here at Stonelaw we believe that Jesus responds to united hearts. When we show our willingness to pray in harmony and love, the Lord promises to be present. Our prayer group invites and encourages others to share their prayer needs as a group and offers prayers of praise, petition and thanksgiving to God. A safe place is created for people to share their concerns, joys and heartaches, knowing that many are praying on their behalf.</image:title>

<image:caption>Our address is: 2 Dryburgh Avenue, Rutherglen Glasgow G73 2EG. The church sits on a corner and the picture below shows our building from Stonelaw Road. The two main doors to the Sanctuary are on Stonelaw Road and the entrance to our halls below are on Dryburgh Avenue. See our Accessibility page for guidance on entering our building. Please scroll down to view a Google Map of our location. Parking For Sunday services and evening events, while there is limited parking in the streets around the building, ample parking is available in the Stonelaw Health Centre car park. The Health Centre is directly opposite the church on Stonelaw Road. The car park is accessed via Johnstone Drive, visible on the map below. During Health Centre opening hours, please do not use their car park. Travel by bus There is a bus stop directly opposite the church which brings people from the East Kilbride direction on the number 18. From the opposite direction, coming from Glasgow, the number 18 stops a little way along in front of the cars shown in this photograph. The 7A which runs between Cambuslang and Glasgow also travels along this road. Also passing the church are the 14 (Fernhill to Rutherglen) and the M2 (Toryglen to Croftfoot). Neither the 14 or M2 operate on a Sunday. Travel by train Burnside station is a 10 minute walk uphill from the church on Stonelaw Road. Rutherglen station is a 10 minute walk in the opposite direction. It is located in Victoria Street, which is parallel with Main Street.</image:caption>

<image:caption>On Thursday 3rd June we were delighted to welcome members of Presbytery, Neil’s family and other invited guests to join members of Stonelaw’s congregation on a very special evening. Due to current restrictions, not everyone who wanted to could be in the Sanctuary, so many others watched live on Zoom. A selection of photographs of the service are shown below. A recording of the service can also be viewed here. Thanks to the Stonelaw team who arranged for this bunting to be displayed outside the church. Yes, ‘Stonelaw is open and all are welcome’! From Sunday 6th June Neil will be leading worship from the Sanctuary. Since we will not be able to accommodate everyone in church, those who can will be taking part on Zoom. To book your place at one of our Sunday morning services, please contact Therese Reid on therese.stonelawchurch@gmail.com.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Catalyst at Stonelaw - CATALYST</image:title>
<image:caption>We are able to read in the book of Acts in the Bible that the people in the early church were amazed at the miracles and wonders performed among them. These wonders and miracles were born out of gathering together to worship God in different ways. We believe that God wants to move amongst us and amaze us again! CATALYST is not your traditional style of church service. We sing new songs, spend time in prayer creatively, share in each other’s stories and much more, as we seek to provide a catalyst for God to move amongst us here in Rutherglen! It is open to all, and we hope you will join us, and God, as we gather on the third Friday of the month in the Stonelaw sanctuary at 7pm. (This is our normal meeting date and time unless specified otherwise.)</image:caption>

<image:caption>As we did a few years ago, we will again be supporting Rutherglen and Cambuslang Foodbank by asking you to take part in a Reverse Advent Calendar which means that instead of getting something each day of Advent you have the chance to give something. How does it work? It’s easy! All you do is put each day’s item into a bag or box and bring them to the Meeting Place from 26th December to 7th January. It doesn’t matter if you don’t manage to donate on every day of Advent, as every little helps and will be greatly appreciated by those who find themselves having to make use of the Foodbank. Download the calendar now. If you need any further information or would like your items picked up please email info@stonelawchurch.org.</image:caption>

<image:title>Presbytery Plan Creation Group Update - Communications received in February 2022</image:title>
<image:caption>You will be aware that all Presbyteries in Scotland have to provide a plan as to how they will address the required reduction in ministry posts in the years ahead. In Glasgow, the appointed Presbytery Plan Creation Group (PPCG) has to bring a draft Mission Plan before Presbytery for approval by September 2022 and the Faith Nurture Forum and General Trustees by December 2022. In early February the group sent out to all congregations in Glasgow Presbytery two letters and a map, showing the proposed zones that the presbytery has been divided into. It has been suggested that Rutherglen Stonelaw should be allocated to Zone 5. The Kirk Session met on 1st February and agreed to this. You can see the zones in the map on this page. Please click on the map to download a PDF which shows all the proposed congregations in each Zone. You can also download the communications from Presbytery: Letter 1 and Letter 2. Please email info@stonelawchurch.org if you would like any more information about this process.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The congregation will be aware that there is a process called the Presbytery Mission Plan taking place in Glasgow. Congregations have been asked to arrange themselves in Clusters, that is groups of local churches. Our Cluster is Burnside Blairbeth, Cambuslang, Flemington Hallside and Rutherglen Stonelaw. Representatives from each congregation are meeting regularly and will share updates as details emerge in the next weeks and months. Stonelaw's representatives are: Rev Neil H. <image:title>Church Membership - Is it for you?</image:title>
<image:caption>You might be new to our church family or indeed you may have been with us for a while. Whichever you are, I would like you to consider making that relationship more formal by becoming a member of our congregation. Of course, you may have already considered this in the past and came to the conclusion that you are happy with things as they are. However, if you would like to discuss this further, with no obligation to follow through on becoming a member then please get in touch with me. For a bit more information on Church membership and why it is something to give serious and prayerful consideration to, please read this document. I would also like to say that everyone is welcome to be part of the Stonelaw family and choosing not to become a formal member in no way makes you a second-class citizen here. I look forward to having a chat with you in the near future. Yours in Jesus, Neil</image:caption>

      <image:title>Easter 2026 - Easter message from our Minister</image:title>
<image:caption>On behalf of all at Stonelaw Church, I would like to extend a warm Easter greeting to you and your family! "He is not here; he has risen, just as he said." – Matthew 28:6 Easter is a time of renewal, a time to reflect on the incredible gift of life that Jesus’ resurrection brings. His victory over death offers us the promise of new beginnings, of hope that transcends every fear and uncertainty. In the midst of a world that often feels uncertain, Easter reminds us of the unshakeable promise that Christ is alive, and that through Him, we too are offered the gift of eternal life. This Easter, we invite you to celebrate with us here at Stonelaw Church as we walk through Holy Week, before celebrating on Easter Sunday with an all age breakfast service. For more information on Holy Week at Stonelaw see our website. May this Easter bring a renewed sense of peace and joy to your heart, and may you experience the love and grace of the risen Jesus Christ in a fresh and powerful way. Yours in Jesus, Rev Neil H. <image:title>Christian Aid Week 2024 - CHRISTIAN AID WEEK 12th - 18th MAY 2024</image:title>
<image:caption>Here's how we can all help Christian Aid's partners, like Aline in Burundi. Aline - a mother who was forced to leave her home because of her abusive husband. She received training in how to establish a Village Savings and Loans Association (VSLA) and was given a small start-up grant. The training, coupled with the loan, has enabled her to start her own small business selling avocados and peanuts. VSLAs enable communities to come together to save their money and apply for small loans to cover costs. Aline was able to put her profits into the VSLA and use the money to buy a bicycle. The bicycle has enabled her to sell her produce further afield, thus increasing her profits, which have in turn allowed her to build her own home. She is now able to care well for her family and ensure they get a good balanced diet and education, something that felt unattainable a couple of years ago. Here is how you can help: Pray that Christian Aid Week 2024 will change the lives of people living in extreme poverty. Give what you can, through a Christian Aid digital envelope, https://fundraise.christianaid.org.uk/envelope-2024/rutherglen-stonelaw-church Sponsor the Rutherglen 150k in May team, most of whom are Stonelaw members! Ask around to sign a paper sponsor form or give online at https://www.justgiving.com/page/150kinmay2024</image:caption>

<image:title>Past Times Dementia-friendly Community - What happens at Past Times?</image:title>
<image:caption>Thanks to funding from the Scottish Government’s Community Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund, from March 2025 we now meet three times every month (2.30 - 4pm) in the church. You can find out more about each event below. Past Times Musical Memories is held on the second Wednesday of every month. We have tea, coffee and cake, and we chat and sing along to music provided by entertainers. Our visitors tell us it gives them something to look forward to every month and we aim to have everyone leave much happier than when they arrive! This event is very popular and so unfortunately, we have a waiting list. Please contact past-times@stonelawchurch.org to find out more or to be added to the list. On the third Wednesday of every month we run our Come and Try Activity Sessions. As the name suggests, we offer a range of different activities each month. We always start with an optional Health Walk, leaving from the top of Dryburgh Avenue. Just come along at 2pm to register; we are part of Get Walking Lanarkshire. We walk for about 30-40 minutes and then come back to the church for tea, coffee and cake and join in the activities. If you don’t want to walk, just come to the church at 2.30; we meet in the downstairs hall. There will always be a choice of a craft-based activity, board games and sometimes a physical exercise activity. They always involve lots of fun and laughter! No waiting list for this session so please feel free to come along and try something new! Our Drop-in Memory Café is held on the fourth Wednesday of the month and does not have a waiting list. Here is all you need to know: Who is it for? It’s for anyone worried about their memory and people living with dementia and their carers. What happens? Just pop in for free tea, coffee and cake and a blether. (We often have a sing-song too.) And if you have a problem, ask our experts for advice and guidance. Where is it? At Stonelaw Church, 2 Dryburgh Avenue, Rutherglen. (Enter on Stonelaw Road, just across from the Health Centre.) When is it on? The fourth Wednesday of every month, from 2.30 – 4pm. Professional help and advice At our meetings you will also have access to professional help and advice. A Support Worker from Alzheimer Scotland and / or a Community Psychiatric Nurse / Support Worker from Eastvale at Rutherglen Health Centre will be there. Maybe you, or a loved one, are dealing with memory issues or maybe you have already received a diagnosis of dementia. No matter which, if you have a problem, please come along. Or if you would just like some company and the chance to meet others in the same situation, you will be very welcome. Please contact past-times@stonelawchurch.org or call 07808 926067 for more information.</image:caption>

<image:title>Past-times Vacancy February 2026 - Thank you for your interest - the vacancy has now been filled. (1/4/26) About Past Times</image:title>
<image:caption>As a church, some years ago we recognised that we were able to offer support to people who are living with dementia, and their carers. We had space in our building and volunteers with a passion to help. And so Past Times began in October 21. Funding from various sources has allowed us to open three times a month and provide musical entertainment and other activities which improve the quality of life of our visitors. Here are quotes from two of our visitors living with dementia: “I feel calm, I know those around me know why I am there so it lets me feel better. It’s an easy calm place and I can talk to those involved and not feel embarrassed.” “Everything about Past Times brings benefit to my life. The Come-and-Try has given me a chance to try things I would never have done before.” You can also get a flavour of Past Times by watching this video which was compiled in August 2025. Our vacancy Following receipt of funding (until February 2028) from the Scottish Government Community Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund, we now seek a committed individual, ideally with training and experience of working alongside people living with dementia and their carers. We need you, as our Project Manager, to work collaboratively in leading our volunteers to support the delivery and development of our services. If this is you, please send your CV and a short statement outlining your reasons for applying for this post and the names of two referees to past-times@stonelawchurch.org/. References will be taken up prior to the appointment of the successful candidate. Should you wish to have an informal discussion about the post, please contact us by email in the first instance. Closing date for applications is noon on Monday 2nd March with interviews to be held on Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th March. Find out more about this role by downloading our Job Description / Person Specification and our Overview of Past Times.</image:caption>
