Past Times Dementia-friendly Community
What happens at Past Times?
Thanks to funding from the Scottish Government’s Community Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund, from March 2025 we now meet three times every month (2.30 - 4pm) in the church. You can find out more about each event below.
Past Times Musical Memories is held on the second Wednesday of every month. We have tea, coffee and cake, and we chat and sing along to music provided by entertainers. Our visitors tell us it gives them something to look forward to every month and we aim to have everyone leave much happier than when they arrive! This event is very popular and so unfortunately, we have a waiting list. Please contact past-times@stonelawchurch.org to find out more or to be added to the list.
On the third Wednesday of every month we run our Come and Try Activity Sessions. As the name suggests, we offer a range of different activities each month. We always start with an optional Health Walk, leaving from the top of Dryburgh Avenue. Just come along at 2pm to register; we are part of Get Walking Lanarkshire. We walk for about 30-40 minutes and then come back to the church for tea, coffee and cake and join in the activities. If you don’t want to walk, just come to the church at 2.30; we meet in the downstairs hall. There will always be a choice of a craft-based activity, board games and sometimes a physical exercise activity. They always involve lots of fun and laughter! No waiting list for this session so please feel free to come along and try something new!
Our Drop-in Memory Café is held on the fourth Wednesday of the month and does not have a waiting list. Here is all you need to know:
Who is it for? It’s for anyone worried about their memory and people living with dementia and their carers.
What happens? Just pop in for free tea, coffee and cake and a blether. (We often have a sing-song too.) And if you have a problem, ask our experts for advice and guidance.
Where is it? At Stonelaw Church, 2 Dryburgh Avenue, Rutherglen. (Enter on Stonelaw Road, just across from the Health Centre.)
When is it on? The fourth Wednesday of every month, from 2.30 – 4pm.
Professional help and advice
At our meetings you will also have access to professional help and advice. A Support Worker from Alzheimer Scotland and / or a Community Psychiatric Nurse / Support Worker from Eastvale at Rutherglen Health Centre will be there. Maybe you, or a loved one, are dealing with memory issues or maybe you have already received a diagnosis of dementia. No matter which, if you have a problem, please come along. Or if you would just like some company and the chance to meet others in the same situation, you will be very welcome.
Please contact past-times@stonelawchurch.org or call 07808 926067 for more information.
